Each Councilor and the Mayor have the opportunity to recommend people from their districts (The Mayor's appointee is called "at-large") to boards and committees. Typically, boards or commissions are a 3-4 year term. Committees are temporary and can last months to a year.
In order to apply, first call your Councilor to let him/her know you are interested. They may also like to know some background qualifications.
For appointment to a board or commission, a formal application with resume will need to be turned in to the City Clerk for the Mayor and Council to review all applicants. The recommendation of the Councilor for the district is considered, but not always a guarantee.
For appointment to a committee, the Councilor has the right to appoint whomever he or she chooses.
